ok, so boston has come back from a 0-3 deficit to tie the al at 3 games apiece......this turnaround has never been done before in baseball..........wow...........schilling, though injured was fabulous........i may have to skip bookclub to watch the deciding game 7 tonight..... Posted by Hello

ok, so david ortiz helped the sox pull off a win in the longest postseason game in history.....this shot was from the bottom of the 14th inning....... Posted by Hello

poetry....

ok, so i am reminded of a trip to washington dc...to the portrait gallery...near the convention center...whereupon i saw the portrait of edna st. vincent millay.......the following words were attached...

My candle burns at both ends;
It will not last the night;
But, ah, my foes, and, oh, my friends -
it gives a lovely light.

i appreciated these words more when i was working myself to death....these days i am just praying that the sale goes through and i can travel again........this time to rome.....maybe a parting trip with the world's best traveler(s).........traveling is a state not suited to all.........especially to those who do not travel in their off-time.....anticipating where they might go if they had the chance.......i was warmed to the bone when i threw out the possible destination this evening, and my potential traveling companion verbalized the potential highlights...without regard for a guidebook.........that is a worldclass traveler in my book........but can i handle the jet-lag involved in a short trip.............i suppose if the sun is out and the weather is warm.....not like brussels where we slept the 1st day away............................

ok, so if things work out right, i might just want to take a long weekend over president's day and fly to rome.......with my traveling companion...wearing his lucky hat....the trains do connect to rome from eastern france......... Posted by Hello

ok, so amen, amen, and amen.......the sox are still alive in this series....... Posted by Hello

inserts.....

ok, so in this week's new yorker magazine.....which was missing and just reappeared this afternoon....there were at least 4 made-to-be-removed-by-reader inserts.....in no particular order.......an election scoreard from cnn that included a map of the united states and stickers (elephants and donkeys....) to be placed on states after their electoral votes have been declared.........there was an llbean ultra-mini catalog of 10 selected items that i might just want to order on their toll-free number.......a mini-phamphlet from make-it-better.org underwritten by timberland boots which highlighted ways that i can make my home 'green'.....and a guide to photography in galleries and museums nationwide supplied by the folks at hp...(invent.....)...there is a tiny ad for a portable diigital camera and printer just inside the back cover....just in case i am moved to produce some woo-worthy piece of photography myself...........curiously, there are numerous mentions of exhibits in houston, los angeles, boston....but none in nyc.................maybe the folks at the new yorker figured that readers already live in nyc and could find exhibits by reading the magazine itself...................

ok, so these mushrooms were on the trail today at the wildlife refuge......a glorious day to take a 3-mile walk with family and friends....... Posted by Hello

the aclu.....

ok, so my mom and i got into it over the aclu at lunch today, after church, over the issue of the ten commandments in publically funded buildings.........she contends that there is nothing in the constitution against these displays....and that the aclu just goes against it because they are meddlesome and nobody really is against these displays.............i tried to be calm as i explained that she was amongst 4 christians who believe that government should stay completely out of religion, and neither endorse nor condemn any form of religion...........and that the ten commandments means nothing if not practiced...........which brings me back to why my brother does not go to church at all....he contends that churches are full of people who do not practice what they preach..................ah well..................it takes all kinds..............

ok, so things don't look promising for boston.......pitching just didn't deliver...on either side but especially for boston........and then there was the balk,.....and the attempt to take third base on a basehit....and the attempt for too many runners to score.....well.......i am so sorry for this score.......and for osu, well they cannot seem to win a ball-game, either......yesterday's loss to iowa was their 3rd loss in a row.............there is always next year.........Posted by Hello

ok, so the cross country season for danville is closing in on the end.......for the record, the good-looking guy on the left in blue placed 7th........ Posted by Hello

ok, so there were no tears in mudville over the cancellation of last night's game......i would take credit for this quote, but i am not that clever....... Posted by Hello

ok, so i found this photo and quoted text at bully magazine online......
Senator Jim Bunning
Party: Republican
State: Kentucky
Nickname: The Rube

'For those fans of American baseball, I know what you're saying - hey, wasn't there a guy who used to pitch for the Detroit Tigers named Jim Bunning? Yessir, it's the same person. Bunning was a pro-ball payer for 17 years and was even the second pitcher in history to record both 1,000 strikeouts and 100 wins in both the National and American leagues. What does that have to do with politics?

Well, not a goddamn thing. But only in America are we dumb enough to believe that just because some goon can throw a fastball that he can also make sound legislative decisions. It worked for Steve Largent and Jack Kemp, so why not for Jim Bunning. And what proud American would not shed a tear when Mr. Bunning stands up during a debate on the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty and states, "Mr. President, this whole debate reminds me of what the great philosopher Yogi Berra once said?."

As disturbing as that is, it's what one would expect from a rube like Bunning. We're not expecting Socrates-like rhetoric on the state of the nation and its people. No sir, he's a Republican hack all the way'.

i say we don't vote for him because he is paranoid and/or senile......the business of asking for fulltime security after he visited a quilt museum in Padacah because 'there may be strangers among us'...........the ads would have us vote for him because he fathered 9 children and 35 grandchildren.......wow...now that is a reason why we should return a senile guy to the senate....maybe he can father some more..............no mention if any of them require public assistance...........

so cold......

ok, so i have been cold from before i got out of bed.....until i got home from work......chilled to the bone cold......i put a pot of soup on, and then tried to warm back up under the covers.........i awoke with the cat snuggled with me........so sweet........but still so cold....even with soup..........even with a nap.........at least the nap is out of the way.......and an entire weekend before me........and less baseball than i had planned upon.....the rain drove away fenway fans......at least schilling has more time for rehab............

hard-headed woman...

ok, so as i was pulling up to work this morning, the mmmix cd was playing the following obviusly subversive tune by jusuf islam aka cat stevens.....

hard-headed woman

I'm looking for a hard headed woman, One who will take me for myself, And if I find my hard headed woman, I won't need nobody else, no, no, no. I'm looking for a hard headed woman, One who will make me do my best, And if I find my hard headed woman I know the rest of my life will be blessed -- yes, yes, yes. I know a lot of fancy dancers, people who can glide you on a floor, They move so smooth but have no answers. When you ask "Why'd you come here for?" "I don't know" "Why?" I know many fine feathered friends but their friendliness depends on how you do. They know many sure fired ways to find out the one who pays and how you do. I'm looking for a hard headed woman, One who will make me feel so good, And if I find my hard headed woman, I know my life will be as it should -- yes, yes, yes. I'm looking for a hard headed woman, One who will make me do my best, And if I find my hard headed woman...

of course, the head of homeland security contends that jusuf islam funds hammas, and is therefore a terrorist........i have sent money for missionaries to buy bibles (before the fall of the wall) in eastern europe.........did that make me a communist...........i find it hard to believe that the person who could write such sweet songs of peace could be a terrorist underneath the skin.....

who's your daddy......

ok, so there is a lot of talk about 'daddy' in this playoff season.......let's not forget who the real daddies are.....thom brennaman, who does commentary for fox, is the son of cincinnati legend sportscaster marty brennaman.......so presumably nobody has to ask him '''who's your daddy?'.......

another hyphen.....

ok, so i met a new hyphen yesterday..........a woman in her mid fifties.......with long grey hair.......no love beads, but clearly an aging hippie type......her reasons for hyphenating seemed similar to my own....she could have kept her own name, but the hyphenated version sounded just too good to pass up......i do know many women who kept their own names......she seemed surprised that my spouse chose to hyphen as well.........ah well.......i thought i knew every hyphen in a multi-county area.....i wonder if there are more out there..........

the o'reilly factor......

ok so it seems that we all underestimated mr o'rielly.................from smoking gun.com

OCTOBER 13--Hours after Bill O'Reilly accused her of a multimillion dollar shakedown attempt, a female Fox News producer fired back at the TV star today, filing a lawsuit claiming that he subjected her to repeated instances of sexual harassment and spoke often, and explicitly, to her about phone sex, vibrators, threesomes, masturbation, the loss of his virginity, and sexual fantasies. Below you'll find a copy of Andrea Mackris's complaint, an incredible page-turner that quotes O'Reilly, 55, on all sorts of lewd matters. Based on the extensive quotations cited in the complaint, it appears a safe bet that Mackris, 33, recorded some of O'Reilly's more steamy soliloquies. For example, we direct you to his Caribbean shower fantasies. While we suggest reading the entire document, TSG will point you to interesting sections on a Thailand sex show, Al Franken, and the climax of one August 2004 phone conversation. (22 pages)

i am sure that bill clinton is really enjoying every minute of this.........

'somebody in delaware has my horse?.....'

ok, so i play the powerball lottery every wednesday and saturday.....just $1....it has become a joke on wednesdays....as i tell my daughter that i will be 'just a minute' as i run into the convenient store on our way home from church.....and she times me on her watch.....to see if it was, in fact, just a minute........the deal is......if i win, i will buy her a horse.........little chance of having to make good on this promise......but hope springs eternal.......so when the group of 30 folks won the powerball over the weekend.....they will get $2.2 mil apiece....our new joke is......somebody in delaware has my horse...............which is as it should be....so we do not have to feed it, groom, or clean up after it......and i could not see us moving....we live in my spouse's grandfather's house on the lake....too many family memories to pack up and move to beverly hills like the clampetts........so why do i still play...if i don't want to move or buy a horse...............there's the rub...........but i will figure it out should i ever win............

large print.....

ok, so yesterday, the typeface on every site i visited appeared to be smaller than usual, like it shrunk in the wash.......i was given expert and free advice........check the browser settings.......gentle readers, in all of my years as an internet surfer....i have never messed with these settings......omg.....i can change print size.......and so i chose granny print....so i can type my blog without bothering to find my glasses, especially in the morning when i am clutching my coffee...........this the is best thing since sliced bread....or i am just easily amused.....

condoms.....

ok, so today, in the clinic, i was working with a toddler, and his mother and his grandmother....the grandmother was several years younger than i but looked much older.........must be the cigarettes.....as they were leaving the daughter pulled me aside and asked me for the free condoms......well......i am unused to being asked for condoms, and it took all i could muster to neither look surprised nor disapproving.......good for her using any kind of birth control......and i was able to find the condoms.....that are usually left in bags by the clinic door, i discovered...so people don't even have to ask for them.....they had run out......so the supply was replenished.........this is a good thing......to have a no-questions-asked policy about something as basic as birth control.................for the record......all health departments in ky give out free condoms.......just in case you wanted to know..........

at this rate i will never retire.....

ok, so today i received the investment summary from my bank.......and it is dismal.....i am barely back to where i was when dubya took office.....and that isonly because we have made deposits....not because his policies have helped me out......and this from the most conservative fellas that could ever plan out one's financial future........the lead guy plotted out his potential for running a marathon by first running up and down his own driveway before he ever went out on the road.....and he still holds the local record for boston........at least he has a better time than my spouse for boston..........but back to money..........at this rate i will be working into my cane-walking years......

ok, so i attempted to watch the news.....but the commericals are so fraught with negative political ads that i decided to look up a picture for family values....and this actually came up..down the page on google.........now i will smile when some smug political insider wannabe talks of family values........ Posted by Hello

10...........

ok, so this afternoon, every site that i visit that involves writen words seems to be smaller.....like the font was downgraded from a 12 to a 10...................or is this diminutive view just part of getting older........

ok, so i do think that kerry should pat down bush tonight at the debate to see if he is wired.....too bad i am such a wimp that i missed the end of the ballgame and edwards on leno...... Posted by Hello

ok, so i am no fan of eminem, but it did take guts to do this spoof video of wacko jacko....that included little boys singing and dancing on his bed........ Posted by Hello

combo church and pharmacy drivethru......

ok, so folks, you heard it here first....the potential for a building boom in america.......with so many pharmacists refusing to honor precriptions.....they may just have to hook up with churches so that they can fill only those prescriptions that seem morally right (rather than left.....). How far could one's morals take them when it comes to pills.........pain meds are narcotics.............and we can't be having no stinking narcotics in good christian homes....so they would be off the formulary.......and acne and/or weight loss meds.......why can't these young folks just get used to the bodies god gave them?.........i am proud of the college age girl who brought police to the kmart where the pharmacist refused to either fill the prescription or to transfer it.........good gravy....refused to transfer it.....like by complete refusal this girl would not have sex and it he wouldn't have sleepless nights over it.............maybe next we will have to rally for separation of church and pharmacy....something that our forefathers never saw coming...............

wimp.......

ok, so it has been suggested that sleep is for wimps......that somehow the need/desire to go to bed early is a sign of both physical/moral decay............that may be true.......because last night i turned off the boston game, took a bath and went to bed even though i had great interest.......but my aging body and nagging back required attention.......i did enjoy the shirt worn by curt schilling at the press conference......why not us?..........and i felt sorry for schilling as i watched hin struggle with his hurt and aging body........especially his push-off ankle.......i read just now on mlb.com that boston came back in the 7th, and then the yankees rallied yet again.......but these boston guys appear to be no wimps......johnny damon claims then to be idiots...........but certainly not wimps.........they could easily come back tonight to tie the series.....which is best of 7 rather than best of 5..................maybe i can rally enough to stay up and watch..................

so proud.....

ok, so my middle child is volunteering at the democratic headquarters as we speak......makes me so proud that my adopted liberal roots run deeper than my genetic republican ones.....with the election in such a state of flux...and the world close to the edge.....seems like a good idea.......either stand and fight or get away somewhere...far away...of course, thsi child is not interested in politics as a career...rather he hopes to fight urban sprawl......we will keep you posted........

ok, so today the death of john kelley was reported.......for the non-marathon savvy...this man won the boston marathon twice.....the first time in 1935.......but he is more famous for running it 61 times....the last time at age 85...gentle readers.....i have no intention of doing a second marathon, let alone 60 more.......what a guy......newsweek reports that there is a statue placed at heartbreak hill in tribute to such an athlete....... Posted by Hello

right over my head.....

ok, so between patients today i have been preparing for the yankees/sox game by reading si.com.......whereupon one of the jokester commentators said that the yankees had relaced their pitcher, with a surprise....predro marinez, sr.......who would pitch against the sox' pedro martinez.........well.....i guess i did not know that after pedro's last pitching loss to the yankees he made some crack about the yankees being his daddy........oh well......these baseball nuances escape me.........can't wait for the actual baseball to start......and 7 days of potential games............and that is just bos/nyy and that is just the al............i don't if i can devote time to st louis/houston..............

dharma dogs

ok, so i had this vivid dream last night...about going back to school to work on my ph.d..in what i cannot tell you..only that it was not nutrition.....and we were invited to attend the opening of a little independent film by family/friends? who have reinvented themselves as post-hippy types.......we rented a limo so we could all ride together....in one scene we are picking up tow women...and the door to their house is open at an angle that allows a slew of fall leaves to blow into their parlor from the porch.....this scene was especially beautiful..........the reds and browns and yellows against a green carpet.....anyway.....we stopped at school to drop off some sort of work-in-progress on the dissertation...........and had to break into the building to drop it off.......and we were parked in a seedy area....so a semi-armed felon taking my fur coat- it is seal, and 60 years old...from my great aunt olga stephan and certainly not worth stealing, and ended up taking the dissertation (outline?) as well........we missed the movie, so headed directly to a basement art gallery where the afterparty was being held.......the movie had been titled dharma dogs......a combo of the book of dune, resevoir dogs, and dharma and greg....the title is an inside joke in our family...as i once mentioned seeing the book dogs of dune, a sequel to the dune series.....in a friends apt in grad school.......and i have been proven wrong...that no such book has ever been written......at this afterparty, stairway to heaven is being played with poor reception, like it used to be in the basements of our youth, when radio reception was lousy in your parents basement.......there was a lot of discussion about the film we had missed...........the symbolism.....etc.....and then one couple sneaks off to have illicit sex.......wow, and they are people i actually know........this was really crazy.....and at some point my cell phone goes off, and we are told if we want to be present for our grandchild's birth, we had better hurry.......the delivery was by a midwife who believed that the mother had to birth her own baby...so the midwife was standing clear until the mother, whose face i could not identify...thank god...as i would just worry about this prophesy...........pulled out her own baby.......this was an especially strange scenario....as the baby morphed into a toddler, who started running around naked.......i guess newborns can do that in dreams..........and then we went home, which was not our home, but some place that looked like my aunt lola's family home on the apple orchard........those are the details i can remember.....the limo, the dissertation, the robbery, the basement art gallery, the sneaking off, the birthing, stairway to heaven, the leaves,...............i have no idea what it means.....for the record, hell would probably have to freeze over before i went back to school.........but you just never know...................... and we do not, to our knowledge, know the lesbian couple who live in the house with the green carpet in the parlor.........the film could have been one produced by our sons....who have joked about being the next brother/brother team of filmmakers...........that would make sense, as the couple involved at the gallery are parents of a friend of our eldest.........

ok, so is that a transmitter........or is bush's bulge some other october surprise...... Posted by Hello

free time......

ok, so you know that others have a little more free time on their hands than you do when the address for blogger has scrolled off the bottom of the history within 24 hours of one's last blog.............good thing i can recall the address without resorting to the history pulldown menu.......this being fall break for the local schools......i did enjoy sleeping in a tad knowing that i didn;t have to drive in the opposite direction getting the young one to school.......crazy day in the public health field.....i worked with a 53 pound 2 1/2 year old whose mother must have weighed 350 pounds...who spoke nothing but spanish, and interpretor did her best...but the child also appears to have several developmental disabilities.........this was awkward, as the mother seemd to deny it even though the child was quite uncontrollable and vacant looking, and spoke not one word........of any language.........the mother did not seem to be worried about his weight.......................

64...

ok, so john lennon would have been 64 today....

"When I'm Sixty-Four"
-Lennon/McCartney

When I get older losing my hair,
Many years from now,
Will you still be sending me a Valentine,
Birthday greetings bottle of wine?

If I'd been out 'til quarter to three
Would you lock the door;
Will you still need me; will you still feed me,
When I'm sixty-four?

You'll be older too,
And if you say the word,
I could stay with you.

I could be handy, mending the fuse
When your lights have gone.
You could knit a sweater by the fireside,
Sunday morning go for a ride,

Doing the garden, digging the weeds,
Who could ask for more?
Will you still need me; will you still feed me,
When I'm sixty-four?

Every summer we can rent a cottage,
In the Isle of Wight, if it's not too dear;
We shall scrimp and save.
Grandchildren on your knee:
Vera, Chuck, & Dave

Send me postcard, drop me a line,
Stating point of view;
Indicate precisely what you mean to say
Yours sincerely, wasting away.

Give me your answer, fill in a form
Mine for evermore
Will you still need me; will you still feed me;
When I'm sixty-four?

meadows....

ok, so this song has been on my mind....and i was finally able to put a name to it......from joe walsh's solo album.......the smoker you drink, the player you get.......

Meadows(J. Walsh)

Can't think of any reason
Don't know exactly why
Must be it's out of season
Give it another try
I'm out here in the meadow
Part of an old stone wall
Stand here because he said so
Waitin' around to fall
Some things are left unspoken
Some things are handme down
The circle stands unbroken
Sendin' it back around
I've seen you roll in clover
Dressed for a scarecrow wall
Too bad the dance is over
Nothin' to show at all
Can't help but feel uncertain
Knowing which way to turn
They want to raise the curtain
And you're holdin' the words to learn
I'm out here in the meadow
Part of an old stone wall
Stand here because he said so
Waitin' around to fall

omg...it takes me back...............to about 1975............

ok, so i read this book this book over the weekend..........and i will reread it to pick up on the nuances i miss when i march through a book to get the plot line straight........mostly it is about a mother finally getting on with her life years after her spouse left her with the children and the house.......i especially enjoyed the house rennovation subplot....... Posted by Hello

ok, so my new dream series would be st louis against boston....with boston taking it in game 4 Posted by Hello

ok, so i am envisoning the class-action lawsuit.......filed by our children who slept in the basement bedroom.....which appears to have radon .1 over the safe limit.......we will probably use up all available capital fixing the problem, and have nothing left over for tuition.......... Posted by Hello

it's hard work.......

ok, so i have spent the past 3 hours of my life digging.....dirt........into a wheel barrow.........the county surprised us by finally correcting the drainage problem...which had shunted rainwater from my mother's yard downhill toward our house......the county dug up part of the asphalt....and widened/regraded a 75-foot stretch on the section of our property we call the 'woodlot'..our little buffer between us and the next door neighbor.....the county fixed it....and left 3 piles of dirt...and a load of clods of old paving material and clay....and drove away.......so......we have raked and dug, and evened out the dirt so that we can replant grass before the weeds take it all over.........more than one of our neighbors stopped to say....'that looks like too much work...'yeh, right..........luckily, there was no loss of trees........the nice thing about manual labor is the closure...when you are done..you can see it, prove it.......lay down upon it.......i like that about projects.......when one gives out information, or good advice....there is no such feeling of closure.......rather an ambiguousness.....that my words have gone out into the world, but whtthere good will come of them is uncertain at best.......ah well.......i will sleep well tonight..............

the pope?....

ok, so somebody has been reading this blog, reliably for the past 3 days.....from italy........so who do i know from italy....nobody.......certainly the pope has better things to do than to read this blog.........of course, i could be on some secret vatican watch list.....a catholic patriot act if you will........which rightly identifies me as a threat given my basic disagreement with catholicism at its roots.......celebate priests, women unworthy to preach or lead congregations, birth control officially decried, abortion...well...y'all know the rest of the reasons i chose not to become catholic when i married..........and i did steal my spouse away from the catholic church.....i have probably been on their watch list and/or doomed to purgatory on that count alone......heck, the catholic church only took galileo's books off their forbidden list in the last century......and i do believe they finally pardoned him of his heresy charges.......that is what you get when you have leaders who do not believe in science.....they get crazy with religious fervor and leave reason to the wind............so...to the italian reader...........if you are the pope, i will take one of those absolutions........when i am dead, that is.......just go ahead and put it on my permanent record now...ok?

rituals....

ok, so i am more than amused by the batting rituals of both the al and nl players........each has a set order of adjustments to make-to gloves, hat, gold necklace, cup.....some will tap imaginary dirt from their cleats, and then there is the getting-the-stance just right......which involves all manner of bodily contortions and waving of the bat.........if the pitcher is not ready, or the catcher moves to the left or right......the batter feels compelled to go through the entire sequence all over again........a baseball version of ocd, i suppose....except that the game aids and abets such compulsiveness rather than squelches it or finds treatment......... and then there are the players whose rituals are downright annoying.....say.......sheffield of the nyy......he continues to swing his bat around in the air whilst expecting the pitcher to pitch.........like he is daring the pitcher to hit his bat, not the other way around........and now that the twins saw fit to lose last night.......we will have to watch sheffield's crazy at-bat ritual for at least 3 more games........if there is a God......Boston will sweep, and sheffield can go home or to barbados or to wherever major leaguers go off-season....and he can swing that bat all day and all night........just without a national tv audience.......

Saturday, October 09, 2004

heck.......

ok, so the nyy beat the minnesota twins in extra innings.....partly because of a bad call at 2nd...when derek jeter just pretended to tag the runner.....and because alex r. stole 3rd and then somehow made it home when there was no hit and my spouse claimed that his going home was legal because it was a 'pass'.......it surely looked like a steal to me.....well....not it is back to boston...or nyc...i am not sure.........all iknow is that these guys based in nyc make me crazy.................we are not watching the dodgers/st.louis game.....as cayle wanted to watch disney's mickey mouse version of the three musketeers.......first things first................

worried.......

ok, so my middle child has driven to lexington to watch a friend sing in les miserables......and i am worried sick........somehow lexington seems farther away when one's children drive there....and must drive back in the dark......alone.........oh my......... rationally, i expect my children to grow up and drive away ....to destinations further and further from home........but i am not ready for the reality just yet.......much as i want him to be accepted in the college of his dreams........it is so far away..............i am whining just now.................and i am sorry.........by the way, i am also worried that i have offended my favorite texan by my flagrant ranting about texas when i should be ranting about texans specific to crawford.........she is a real texan, by the way...not some transplant........i am sorry.....

vote for john kerry

ok, so we need a president who believes in science......... Posted by Hello

cache-ing out.....

ok, so this blog can no longer be found through a google search of either my original name, or my married one......i guess that means that i have finally cached out.......about time, too.....i systematically purged all references ages ago..........not that i minded so much.....my children seem somewhat embrassed to have a mean mamma blog so regularly.....all the more reason, i say........

ok, so i am in amazement yet again what a google search can unearth..brilliant works of art by a local painter, certainly photographed by one of the few texans worth knowing.....by the way...to what does the title 'little pharoh' refer?..... Posted by Hello

adoption......

ok, so the president says adoption is the best option.......yet he has never adopted......i want to say that adoption is the single most difficult thing i have ever done in my life.........and when the jerk takes his big= comp time vacation, i think it should be with iraqui orphans that he has adopted.....for the long haul....as hormonal 6th graders........lets see him smirk after a day with a hormonal adoptive child.......................

ok, so martha goes to jail today....in west virginia, which is not sooooooo very far from ky.....maybe we could drop in on visiting day just to chat.....i guess she'll be lonely without her dogs and cats.......... Posted by Hello

comp time.....

ok, so...with all of dubya's hard work that he has been putting in as president.......i would like to see him take back all of that overtime....say between the election and january 20............he has surely earned it...right?

everyone is born right handed.....

ok, so the punch line..........only the gifted overcome it.........baseball season is the only time when the term leftie is in general use.......it may come up in specific conversation.....signing a check, or filling out a form......but mostly i never notice people who use their left hands unless their technique cries out for attention......my daughter cannot seem tohold her pen the same way word after word.......she struggles so with her handedness........which brings me back to baseball.....i am in awe of lefthanded pitchers.....like ray king this evening for st louis......he makes it look easy.....holding the ball, throwing the ball........i cannot conceive of the motions i watch him make.......i can hold a pen and an eating utensil with my left hand.....but i cannot throw anything with it........i instinctively pick up throwables with my right hand......if i ever coach indiana basketball, look for the chairs to be thrown rightie......just a warning........

archived...

ok, so i had to go way back in the archives of one of my favorite blogs to find this poem...which has been curiously on my mind.....

Sylvia Plath - Frog Autumn

Summer grows old, cold-blooded mother.
The insects are scant, skinny.
In these palustral homes we only
Croak and wither.
Mornings dissipate in somnolence.
The sun brightens tardily
Among the pithless reeds. Flies fail us.
he fen sickens.
Frost drops even the spider. Clearly
The genius of plenitude
Houses himself elsewhwere. Our folk thin
Lamentably.

we do not use the word lamentably often enough, although the sentiment is felt daily...........

ok, so i stole this from the l.o.'s friends section's blog.......i would go to paris this evening if i could find my passport, pack enough clean underwear, and believe that my boss would let me return to work after going awol............. Posted by Hello

yes

ok, so the band called yes was on soundstage last night....for some sort of 35 year reunion show.......there were all sorts of 40-50-60 something folks in the audience going crazy.........i was never into them........never owned an album....though i did enjoy listening to a rick wakeman album called the six wives of henry VIII........which i recall as eclectic and interesting for those who happened to be versed in henry's wives.......heavy emphasis on organ/moog synthesizer.....etc.......hard to imagine a band still speaking after 35 years......

min3 nyy 1

ok, so can the minnesota twins beat the nyy 2 games in a row? here is one marginal fan hoping for a miracle..............

what a difference a dotcom.dotorg.dotnet makes........

ok, so i find it quite humerous that dick cheney misdirected millions of viewers to the wrong web site...........factcheck whatever.........too bad, dick....that is how debate works.....you win or lose by your wits, not by the spin folk nor the teleprompter, nor the inked words on the back of your hand......what is that........ dot com....no dot net.......no..........

hou vs atl

ok, so i am so glad that houston beat atlanta...even though i despise all things texan on general principle........i may just despise atlanta more......for all those times they beat cleveland when it counted........ah well...this is another year.........but back to texas......i think i have disliked texas ever since our crown cousins visited us in the early 1970's and the cousin nearest to my age tried to 'feel me up' in the basement........naturally i connect all texans with moral depravity.....and so far they have not proven me wrong........... for the record....my aunt from texas wore little bells in her ears...because she was a 'bush bell'.......the first bush, surely....but enough reason to despise all bush spawn for ever more..................

bounce

ok so the last 2 emails i sent were bounced back.....strangely.....small collections of words.......but not the kind of stuff you expect to have returned...like the confirmation to a workshop at st joseph hospital......................maybe there is a ruckus in the force...that may be corrected if i wait a day or so.........speaking of which....i have finally been able to download a free continuing education piece....which would not print past page 15 for the past 3 or so tries.....it printed totally today......why now?......why cannot the 98 page continuing education piece print from cecity??????again, if i try every day...maybe the internet gods will see fit..........

feigning illness....

ok, so i had a flu shot today...........because director came down and made sure that all health care professionals had flu shots before we let in the line of waiting folks...as a precautionary measure i suppose.......and then i spent the day responding to the words of the colleague who gave the injection.......'you may have flu symptoms for a few days....'.......you might as well have called the sky blue or the pope catholic.......a started having chills and fever within the hour..........or at least i thought i did......even when i got back from my 2 mile hike.......i suspected that i might just have a headache..........and later, at home......i nearly took to the couch-but the little nieghbor girl lena came by selling wrapping paper for the 'other' school district fundraiser........and then i bounced back.......never sick...just close to it...........we went through 800 doses of vaccine in 2 days.......tom0rrow i travel to l.county for my single day there.....heaven help us if their flu shot clinic starts tomorrow.................

ok, so i thought of this painting as i watched the vice-presidential debate...live from OHIO.....for those who desire to see this painting in person.....you must prevail through every last passage in the prado...up all the stairs,,,,down all the last corridors.....to the final goya room........and such a magnificant reward.........a small piece, but so powerful......... Posted by Hello

just a walk in the park.....

ok, so i feel quite blessed to work just down the road from a municipal park, with it's own 2-mile paved walking path...........i have been on the walk-2 miles-than-eat during my lunch hour that i am starting to have my own 'time slot' of recognizable folks......for example...there is the guy who shoots golf balls on the empty soccer fields on wednesdays.........he isn't very good, but he does come back reliably on wednesdays.......there is the guy who owns the horses that wear blinders periodically who climbs over his fence to walk......and there is a woman who walks in street shoes..........the walkers i mentioned are not there every day.............but enough that i am starting to look for them.......i have found that having 6 mix cd's is not enough.....i am already tired of each and every one.......and i must get busy and make more..............with a wider variety of tunes...........i really muist find a place to walk on my one day down in l.county..............

more on flu shot fever.....

ok, so the line was longer this morning......given the publicity about the company that will not be allowed to ship vaccine to america.....and we will run out of vaccine sometime in the next hour.....or at least the vaccine for adults.....we have plenty for children.......but they are not the ones lining up outside.............

film at 11......

ok, so i have watched some of the yankees game....thank you fox.....and most of the debate......and i have some observations......for starts....i am annoyed that gary sheffield swings his bat aimlessly in the air while awaiting a pitch...................just stop that, please...................it makes you look spastic.....................i am also annoyed with derek jeter, on general principle...........enough said..........boston decidedly beat anaheim....nice game for gary schilling.........boston...leave lowe at home.......................and then there is dick cheney, who is clearly smarter than dubya....and yet supports him like a dutiful yes-guy...........how sad....that the republicans have put forth the village idiot when they have cinderella as the #2 guy...............and then there is john edwards...who was obviously the most eloquent of the evening.................if ever i was a democrat...i am so now........

bos-ana

ok, so this morning on npr, the commentator frank deford was ranting about baseball....and basically said that he thinks that anaheim is hot and boston is not....and that anaheim will go on to meet nyy in the al championship series.........or at least that is what i thought he said as i was distracted and trying to get out the door...........since the cubbies are out, it is up to boston to hang in there as my remaining choice in this year's series.......they certainly have the talent, and as long as lowe isn't pitching, they have a good shot at it.............

flu shot fever.....

ok, so today at 8:00 am, the parking lot was full, and there was a line out the door.................because today marked the beginning of flu shot season................omg-the little old people came in droves...............ironically, newborn babies are at greater risk for dying of the flu.....and there wasn't a one of those here today.................the story goes that in years past, when the vaccine was in short supply there were accidents caused by older drivers trying to get into the parking lot, and actually shouting matches between people on who was actually ahead of who in line........we will give the vaccines until our supply of doses are gone....hopefully no riots will insue......

tuesday....

ok, so how is it that that the mlb playoffs will take place at the same time as the vice-presidential debates......that nyy will play minnesota at the same time as edwards the trial lawyer skewers cheny the smug billionaire oil-rich sob..........what a toss-up...do i go upthe road to watch my mothers cable tv to see the minnesota twins lambast the smug sob yanks....or stay at home and watch edwards.....who is this mont on the cover of runner's world magazine......he has run several marathons and considers himself addicted to running...of course he is...how else could he go to the jugular so often in civil cases.......endorphin deficit.........cheney will not know what hit him........

just sick about it.....

ok, so the feverishly republican ob dr who worked our prenatal clinic this morning was in a tizzy over the election.....he said that he is so worried that bush will lose that he can barely sleep at night and he is sick to his stomach over it..................he started in on kitty kelley's slanderish book.........and i walked out of the room because i have no time for such....................though i do enjoy seeing the republican right sweat it out............................. this same person was also sick about the cubs losing friday....and being out of the playoffs....later on i had a client whose cell phone went off while we were talking....it played ....take me out to the ball game.......turns out she is also a disappointed cubs fan....................

al match-ups....

ok, so tuesday, boston plays anaheim, and new york plays minesota.......and then the winner will play for the world series al slot......may the best team wearing red win.......

life IS too short.....

ok, so late yesterday afternoon, we were offered tickets to see lou rawls at the regional arts center........we were tired, and had little time to get supper together and drive back to town......but we did it anyway.....and had a marvelous time.......great jazz band backing him up......especially good sax player.........he sang several sinatra covers from his 82nd album, to be out this fall......very pleasant evening........when we could have been laying on the couch watching a movie instead......but then...life is too short to be tired and sit around feeling old, now isn't it?........

cross country

ok, so this morning i drove on up to the kentucky horse park to watch my middle child run....amongst a field of 329 other varsity runners.....on a gloomy overcast day with threatening rain....................he did well considering the traffic....18 minutes 20 seconds....one of his best times for a cc event.........we had asian for lunch, then stopped at our favorite bookstore before heading home...........the teams were from all over, including st. ursula in cincinnati.......correct me beth.....isn't that where you went to school...and were you not married in their chapel?........................

teaching sunday school finally pays off.....

ok, so the lesson tomorrow covers ecclesiastes chapter 9 verses 1-12.....i shall glowingly quote verse 7.......go, eat your bread with enjoyment, and drink your wine with a merry heart; for god has long ago approved what you do..............amen, amen, and amen......................

harper lee.......

ok, so this year marked a milestone of some sort since the publishing of to kill a mockingbird......and my college sorority tried to give an award to harper lee, a notable alumnae for writing this brilliant work of fiction...but harper lee does not venture out these days for any reason, even chi omega business..........but she did send a nice note.....which was dutifully rendered in the monthly edition of the alumnae magazine.......i will send a copy of the article to my friend gail...mostly for a tiny bit of insight......hsrper lee wrote from memory....her father was a lawyer....her sister is a lawyer and she studied law until she decided to take time off to finish her book-it took 3 years.......she article does mention that she wrote from memory...and that her next door neighbor growing up was......truman capote......ha.....did you not wonder where she got the wonderful character dill?.........ha......who knew.....it was truman capote.....or at least that is what the chi omega folk want us to think................

one last stand......

ok, so it seems that san francisco has just last shot at the nl wildcard bid against houston..........the only race still up in the air.....and i would walk on hot coals rather than see anything from texas prevail............

my friend beth.....

ok, so i heard from my friend beth this week.......beth from graduate school who moved to san francisco and got her mba and left the nutrition field..........she remains the only person i know who sold her house (in sf, near the castro) for more than the asking price................and only to the person who seemed to take to their aging cat.......she and bart made enough cash to buy a lovely home out in the bucolic burbs....on a hill with a pool........with so much more room than before.......her children are 14 and 11......oh my.....so much more to deal with....i will pray for her........our friend jane emailed and asked us if we could not see fit to meet her in annapolis for a reunion......we have done similar reunions.....at dietetic meetings.....jane flew to kansas city in the early 90's to meet us....she was mobile then.....and we met again in washington dc...jane is from mayrland just miles from ernst's brother's house.........but neither beth nor i could make it this time......and so much the sadder.......as jane is not in the best health.....and beth and i are both facing the prospect of early senility.....it runs in both our families....ah well......i hope to see beth one of these days.......

cindy's theory of divorce....

ok, so until this afternoon, i had only heard deedra's theory of divorce........'a woman will divorce her husband on general principle...but a man never divorces his wife unless and until he has her replacement in the wings......' deedra claims that this theory has never been proved wrong.........today, my friend cindy postulated her own theory, which meshes onto the notion of women divorcing their spouses........she contends that it is menopausal survival of the fittest........that the wife is so distraught with caring for her dying/aging parents....and difficult/hormonal children....as well as her own hormonal fragility....that she finally says.....i have to cut loose something in order to find peace....and thus she divorces the man who bitched and moaned about her testiness and her erratic behavior during the entire marriage/childbirth/menopause rollercoaster..........because she cannot discard either her parents or her children quite as decisively..........curious theory........not one that i hope to see proven right or wrong.....and not one that i see her proving right or wrong..........but an interesting theory when one looks to the current divorces on the danville horizon.......not that we discussed anybody in particular in the save-a-lot parking lot..............but an interesting theory.........

go bucks.......i had the pleasure of running into my friend cindy in the grocery parking lot......she was wearing an osu shirt.....and she disclosed that she has osu/michigan tickets!.......her spouse wants to sell them on ebay.....but she wants to go....as she should......osu/michigan is like attending mass with the pope..........seeing cindy is always a pleasure.......it is like a menopause support group ala plein air............and the fact that she is an ohio girl/osu fan/living in danville makes her all the more perfect............ Posted by Hello

chances are slim to none......

ok, so when my baseball mania started....way back in the late spring/early summer....it was with the hope that chicago could play boston in the world's series...the ultimate dream match.......well....chicago has to do some mighty fancy footwork to pull that off at this point..............including digging themselves out of a deep hole with atlanta as we speak..............

ok, so this is my favorite mayonnaise.....and i am quite pleased that i have somehow made it to Best Foods email newsletter list.........does this mean that i may just be lucky enough to win the lottery.........? Posted by Hello

october surprise......

ok, so the big discussion at our house is about the october surprise........just what bombshell shall be dropped that will sway the election one way or another......my personal hunch is that dubya has osama locked up somewhere really secret....and his capture will be announced just prior to november 2......my personal fantasy is that dubya will be caught redhanded with some floozy welfare mother on public assistance with a history of past abortions-preferably with a crack pipe in his hand.........on film......maybe in some sort of bondage scenario.........nothing less would upset the republican right...........

so close......

ok, so the boston red sox came so close.....at so many points in the season.....to taking over their division..........but the yankees have clinched the title, and left boston with the al wild card slot........boston has the talent to pull off the final events.....the playoffs....and god-willing.....march on to the last dance of the season.......ah....the boys of october.......
