a new pride and prejudice....
ok, so i was surprised to learn this morning that a new version of jane austin's p&p opened as part of a film festival in toronto........and it won't be coming to a theatre near me.......such films rarely make it any closer than say...cincinnati......i have my doubts that even the kentucky theatre in lexington won't screen this adaptation.......the reviews i read....and there were only 5 that popped up on google......portrayed this new film as being from miss elizabeth bennett's point of view, rather than mostly about mr darcy and/or all of the bennett sisters.....as was the bbc 6 part mini-series.....having 6 parts to fill....that series had to be about everybody mentioned in austin's book......with a 90 to 120 minutes piece one can focus a bit on a single character, i suppose......the reviews each mention that 40's version that starred olivier.....i have never watched this despite its inclusion in the library's collection of vhs tapes.....and this possibly explains my hesitance at the newest rendition......i am such a fan of the bbc miniseries that i cannot entertain the notion that anybody else could ever or should ever make one that is better.......a bit of pride/prejudice of my own........
