clutching the commandments......
ok, so somewhere on google news i read a commentary about the number of candidates who appear to be 'running on the ten commandments'.....without a tacit understanding of what these commandments actually say....particularly #9-thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.........the one that says that it is a sin to tell little white lies in attack ads..........hmmmmmmmmm....the candidates could say that these ads are run without their control and/or knowledge.............which is again....false witness............
permeating perfume......
ok, so today i seem to smell perfume/cologne everywhere.....like exhaust streaming from an airplane......you smell it coming and going.......as i passed the nursury at church a young mother carrying a toddler reeked of something trendy..........wow.....i hope that child doesn't have asthma.......the aroma was so strong it took my breath away.....and i wasn't that close........i passed an older gentleman.....who must have splashed on something classic out of his medicine cabinet......something i should have recognized.......i will forgive him his aromatic aura because he is a nice fellow and he probably has to pour it on to smell it himself.......i met up with 2 young punk-like girls as i was leaving the library.....their separate scents mingled for a single knock-out punch.........this ultra-sensitivity to odor is curious....as i think i have a sinus infection and feel basically stuffy and uncomfortable...........curious...........
at least ky is in step with the nation.......
ok, so this passage is from an on-line commentary on the vitrol of this year's election....... 'To hear it from the political ad-makers and party officials, Kentucky voters have a clear choice in the state's US Senate race: a mentally-impaired and out-of-touch sitting senator, or a "limp-wristed" and "dumb" challenger who can't be called a real man................... The Kentucky race, newly competitive, is perhaps the nastiest; the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee publicly charged that GOP Senator Jim Bunning is in "declining mental health" because of comments he has made, including accusing Democrat Daniel Mongiardo's staff of roughing up Bunning's wife. GOP state senators alternately called Mongiardo "limp-wristed," and one to whom the word "man" in "gentleman" does not apply. Senator Mitch McConnell, Republican of Kentucky, recently said that Mongiardo is "so dumb you have to doubt his mental capacity to serve."...............politics this nasty...you would think we were in washington..........frankly, i like the anti-bunning ad where he basically screams at a journalist that 'i don't read the papers and i don't watch the news..'which makes him out of touch by his own admission, doesn't it..........nothing nasty about that ad......
completion....
ok, so i managed to listen to the rest of my book-on-cd yesterday.......which means i spent a lot of time in the car......driving to the cross country meet in lexington........which turned out to be in a hilly park muddy enough to be the next woodstock.......the event was huge.......with elementary and middle school runs separated for boys anf girls, and the varsity runs separated by boys, girls, and school size (A,AA,AAA,AAAA) the danville team ran well in this, their last meet before regionals and the state meet...... danville runs single A, so we were out of there in time to find a thai place for lunch......the place i was thinking of..on new circle road...as closed....so we went on to i ching, in the hamburg place shopping area.........this place is confusing......you order first and they give you a number........and you get your own silverware, drinks, and condiments, but a waitress brings you your food.......i am sometimes fooled by thai- as hot and sour soup is not near as good in thailand as it is in china.......you would think that i could remember that from day to day.........the shopping complex is also confusing......lot of banks of stores, with parking all around them, and no arrangements for pedestrians...........and it was incredibly crowded for october.......after the first store i had really had quite enough....luckily i am closing in on completion for christmas shopping....and will be making no holiday forays to lexington for the REALLY crowded shopping season........we arrived back in danville in time to help ernst pass out candy at the shop-downtown merchants sponsor trick-or-treat...on saturday because we can't be celebrating pagan events on sunday........not in the baptist south.......so we handed out 4 shopping bags full of candies in the space of 2 hours.......and shared our storefront with our friend jamey who is running to keep his city commission spot........he passes out smarties with a little tag attached....be a smartie-vote for______he is a truly good man....and we are happy to do this for him.........the election is a completion that i am impatient for.......i really want it all to be over........less than 48 hours til i vote........

tuesday
ok, so the best thing about tuesday...well....the next best thing, as i really want this election to be over and behind us.......is the day off.......i cannot recall ever being handed an election day off......and i want to make the most of it........i may just finish my christmas shopping....in lexington........maybe even call andrew and meet him for lunch...that would be a swell way to spend an unexpected day off.......i plan to get up and vote at 6:00...with the rest of the tuesday morning runners.....though i have no plans to actually run at that hour.......just vote....and maybe settle back into the car to wait on my spouse with coffee and the newspaper.......sounds good to me......
october surprise.......
ok, so is the october surprise going to be.....the fact that there is no surprise at all?.....with bin laden's recently released tape it would appear that he is not in secret US custody.........so unless the republicans have explicit photos of john kerry and _________, i do not think that we will be surprised at all.........
ok, so i understand that ms mackris felt compelled to settle her lawsuit against mr. o'reilly.....i am just disappointed that she took the money and ran.......it would have been nice to see him sweat out a jury trial.......of course, the lawsuit has made him less of a factor in this election......and has deemed him unsuitable to promote his CHILDREN'S book.......

marriage amendment......
ok, so on my way home from work........political signs have sprung up.......the ones that have an outline of a man+woman=family......like that is the only way that a family springs.......either on the way up or the way down.......sadly......i know fewer and fewer of this sort of family........certainly that is a reality that cannot be legislated........requiring single mothers to marry in order to obtain benefit?.......how can that be desirable......or eliminating the kind folks who agree to adopt all of these children that the republican right claims to be available.......are these folks somehow second class because they are not a male/female combo........the folks who tend to want to adopt otherwise unadoptable children tend to not be traditional families........folks like us do not usually adopt......and we would not have sought out adoption, if the opportunity had not sought us out.......no, folks like us birth their desired number of children, and then they put themselves surgically out of the gene pool...........any coupling of people who desire to commit to each other, and raise otherwise unadoptable children....well...they have my blessing........
a good idea?.......
ok, so i have always been of the conviction that a nap is always a good idea........now that i have friday afternoons basically off......well......why wouldn't one take advantage by coming home and enjoying a bit of stolen slumber.......except today i woke up feeling like i had been hit by a wrecking ball.....and the dream i had was quite bizarre......regarding my book on cd.........in my dream the answer was in the glassed-in ant farm.......the boy was supposed to find the inheritance in the ant farm......wow.....this is only vaguely like the actual plot.....and there is no ant farm in the book......only an inheritance that shrinks daily.......curious..........the woman who reads this story seems to read every other book i have borrowed from the library........i may just have to seek out more that she narrates.....her voice is soothing....except for my decidedly unrestful nap...................
ok, so a shot of deja vu shook me as i saw this pic on-line......i knew without reading the blog that they were poppyseed......and that they were eerily similar to cookies that my grandmother made for my cousin debbie's wedding shower......25 years ago........i had never seen them before....and have never seen them since..until this photo........i have looked for the recipe.....but it never occured to me to look for the recipe under purim favorites...........
live and let live....
ok, so the discussion at dinner last night took an interesting bend.....our daughter asked if it was true that john kerry's daughter was a lesbian.....to which we replied in unison that it wasn't kerry's daughter, it was dick cheney's daughter.......but i went on to explain that we cannot make judgements about who people love and care about....... and that my decision not to vote for bush/cheney had nothing to do with cheney's daughter........what i did not go on to discuss was a laundry list of people we know.......either in or out of the closet.......there is a time and place for that.......but not now.......how come 'live and let live' is a liberal rather than a universal sentiment.........
ok, so now that baseball is over, i have moved on to books.....alas, this book is on cd, which is somewhat problematic........it can be rude to go about listening to a cd whilst others are trying to make conversation.........and listening to a cd with a portable cd in the bathtub is likely dangerous.........ah well.......i only have 10 cd's left before i discover the culprit.......

mvp........
ok, so manny ramirez was voted most valuable player for the series......fitting.......however, we have our own mvp.........the sat scores have come back.....and our mvs (most valuablescholar....) improved his last score (which was quite good) by 130 points..........THAT is what can be done with determination and hard work.........
sox sweep series.......
ok,so boston laid to rest the curse with a 3-0 victory late last night.......lowe pitched a great game to redeem himself, and the manager thoughtfully put in his stalwart 2nd stringers like pokey reese, gabe kapler.......and the guy whose long name begins with an m....mankevic?it was a great game.......and i am so ready to watch no baseball for a long winter of going to bed early........gentle readers, thanks for indulging my baseball fever this long and productive season.....amen, amen, and amen

the ultimate insult.....
ok, so during my noon-time walk.......i was passed.........by a woman who i know left her car well after i left mine.......she passed me by like i was crawling along.............gentle readers.........i walk like i have somewhere to go, even on a drag-tired day...........and to be passed must mean that i am just slipping bigtime...what's next?...............
ok, so i love the headline that went with this photo...bubba's back-kerry's got him.........while much may be said about his personal life, he ran the country well, and i still had a decent retirement account......dubya may be a devoutly straight and narrow spouse, but basically all that is left when his devotion is stripped away is a shifty weasal ....bubba's best line? Kerry told the crowd he had asked Clinton backstage if he had anything in common with President Bush. Clinton replied, "In eight days and 12 hours, we'll both be former Presidents."

feeding america.....
ok, so the boston redsox have to win tomorrow's game AND hit the target...several times.........
old money.....
ok, so i finished my book-on-cd during my lunchtime walk......and had a revelation at the same time........the story-line..set in chicago.........dealt with a p.i. (of course....since i like mysteries) whose friend from a monied backround was murdered..........it was during the descriptions....chapter after chapter......of what old money meant.....that it dawned on me that i had a friend who was/is old money....trustfunds...inground pool...secluded home.......private school.....right down to sunday night 'family' dinner with a maid serving lamb in the dining room........ah well.....this explains a lot........funny how such things only occur to me years later...and not at the time......luckily this person is happy and well adjusted.......and unaffected....these days.....people that i know who have done well financially....all seem to be divorced....have abysmal children.....and are less than jubilant
passwords.......
ok, so women of my advanced age/state of mind should not have to remember multiple passwords.......the state computer system requires that we change our passwords on a regular basis......and we cannot keep the same one......and the password must be 7 characters or more, which rules out the passwords i use everywhere else...........i have a stock 5 letter password, and a stock 6 letter password.......words that are easy to remember.....but a cycle of 7 letter words that i will remember is something else all together........the first one was handed to me by my adinstrator.....and then i chose the next.......but my new one, as of this morning.....well....i might just have to write it down in several locations..........ah well....here's hoping i can remember it til tomorrow...........

cross country and goodwill(s).......
ok, so the day was spent either on our way to a cross country meet, or traveling back from one.............with goodwill browsing on both ends.....i really love the randomness of goodwill stores.....the ntion that one can never know what treasures have just been dropped off............unless one goes inside.........the nicholasville store was brimming.....and though i had found a gap longsleeve buttondown for whichever male in my family would agree to wear it.....the checkout line was far too long...and i left it to the next person........the same with the boston road store........there was a really cute talbots spring skirt in a size 6, but one she wouldn't wear on a bet..........the meet was one where rain threatened, but didn't produce...................our good friend patrick m.won the invitational handily.........he with a 4.0 from the county system, who was told basically by the ucla-berkley coach that there was dozens more of him from california, and not to get his hopes up.........what a shame, for he is a really good student and a fabulous runner.......the danville team made an admirable showing.......and then on to the harrodsburg road goodwill, where we hit paydirt........a perry ellis trench coat for our middle child with a zip out wool lining, for $7.50.....and a part-cashmere chesterfield coat for myself in camel for the same price.........i say amen when i find great bargains such as these, and give silent gratitude to the person(s) with such good taste who decided to give them up just as i had need.....i my opinion, the reuse of clothing is one way to save the world and fund worldwide travel......through money not spent on new items.........plus there is the lure of the hunt.....................

pomengranites
ok, so my mother just dropped by bearing pomengranites........and though this may seem eccentric....it was quite thoughtful, as the remaining children at home (rcah...from now on) really like them....nice and ripe.....somehow we got onto the topic of baseball.....and what follows is a synopsis of her side of the conversation.............
mm's mother.........your grandfather would have been so happy with boston's win.....he really hated the yankees..........the only things he ever really said negative about baseball was about the yankees, and about how much he thought pete rose should be in the hall of fame.....he used to say that people like ty cobb were
drunk all the time and bet on baseball and they are in the hall.....
well, i have heard this before, from grandpa...it is nice to hear it again..............

we are the world....
ok,s o i only cut and pasted this because i liked the answer.........
I am The World The World represents the moments when we feel fulfilled and blessed and all that goes into them. It is a very positive sign that you are in a position to realize your heart's desire. What that is for you depends on the situation, but it will always feel great. Remember, though, that Card 21 is a symbol of active contribution and service. To hold the World in our hands, we must give of ourselves to it. That is the source of true happiness. For a full description of your card and other goodies, please visit LearnTarot.com |

i am a little tired of the kitchen wallpaper......
ok, so this seems too bizarre to be true........a california woman returned home from a vacation to greece, to find a woman living in her house.............the woman had gone so far as to repaint, and recarpet......................should anyone decide to squat here, should we ever travel again.......be my guest with the kitchen wallpaper.............
2.5 days rest......
ok, so i did not watch baseball last night........i was in bed by 9:oo......and likely asleep soon after.......i figure i will come off of 2.5 days rest when the series starts saturday night...refreshed and ready to......watch...........this past few weeks has been exhausting.........and i have not stayed the course every single night when the games ran incredibly long.....those northeasterners must be made of sturdier stuff......yesterday...at l.county health department...the health educator also looked blurry-eyed.....she and her spouse recently spent their entire vacation in boston area.......they were thrilled that their tour of fenway allowed them a chance to stand on infield grass.........there are boston fans about.....just not that many.......and for me to skip the st louis game......there are st louis fans around here....as ky does meet up with st louis at it's far-western tip.........folks who went to western ky univ. tend to be st louis fans........as do folks from louisville, paducah, owensboro, etc........ah well..........one would think that i would wake this morning fresh as a daisy...........one good night's sleep cannot compensate for basically being old....... for the record, the lchd was underbooked....they had expected their flu vaccine to last at least through thursday.........and had scheduled no clients in the morning to allow for flu shots......they ran out early on tuesday.....so i had nothing to do from 8-11 am.........except for searching google for a johhny damon bobblehead....which no one has thought to make, by the way.....even nomar garciapara had a bobblehead...and he is long gone..........i wonder if bucky dent has his own bobblehead...............

start spreading the news.......
ok, so this game was quite unbelievable, especially given the unlikelihood of such a comeback..............boston beat nyy for the pennant and the world series berth 10-3...........no extra innings required......thanks to our new favorite players..........bobblehead (damon)....the amishman (milar)....rasta (ramirez). et al..........it was quite a night............

headache...
ok, so i begged off from bookclub claiming a splitting headache.....now that my mother has dropped her bombshell....i have a splitting headache..........curious how life imitates artfulness....or something like that........
rotator cuff......
ok, so my mother has decided that she must have surgery on her rotator cuff.....and the only people she will trust to do it are the folks who did shoulder surgery for her years ago....in columbus,ohio...the practice that attends to osu student athletes.......gentle readers.....this will take her 5 hours away from here......and i have next to no vacation hours with which to afford any sort of daughterly attendence.........but she has already worked out family in central ohio who are willing to take her in after a stint in a rehab unit.......sounds like she is eager to have this done...........omg........how will all of this turn out......
hormones........
ok, so today i attended a continuing education program on hormones....not the ones we usually think of when we gasp about hormones..............possibly more interesting because they are relatively new...at least to me.........i have been in the diabetes field for over 25 years....and this is the first time i had heard about intestinally produced hormones that regulate blood glucose levels in tandem with pancreatic hormones like insulin and glucagon.......fascinating.........not exciting like the al series with the red sox..............but as fascinating as a subject can be after days of sleep deprivation......and nobody at this meeting had any interest in baseball...........ah well....it takes all kinds...............

poetry....
ok, so i am reminded of a trip to washington dc...to the portrait gallery...near the convention center...whereupon i saw the portrait of edna st. vincent millay.......the following words were attached...
My candle burns at both ends;
It will not last the night;
But, ah, my foes, and, oh, my friends -
it gives a lovely light.
i appreciated these words more when i was working myself to death....these days i am just praying that the sale goes through and i can travel again........this time to rome.....maybe a parting trip with the world's best traveler(s).........traveling is a state not suited to all.........especially to those who do not travel in their off-time.....anticipating where they might go if they had the chance.......i was warmed to the bone when i threw out the possible destination this evening, and my potential traveling companion verbalized the potential highlights...without regard for a guidebook.........that is a worldclass traveler in my book........but can i handle the jet-lag involved in a short trip.............i suppose if the sun is out and the weather is warm.....not like brussels where we slept the 1st day away............................

inserts.....
ok, so in this week's new yorker magazine.....which was missing and just reappeared this afternoon....there were at least 4 made-to-be-removed-by-reader inserts.....in no particular order.......an election scoreard from cnn that included a map of the united states and stickers (elephants and donkeys....) to be placed on states after their electoral votes have been declared.........there was an llbean ultra-mini catalog of 10 selected items that i might just want to order on their toll-free number.......a mini-phamphlet from make-it-better.org underwritten by timberland boots which highlighted ways that i can make my home 'green'.....and a guide to photography in galleries and museums nationwide supplied by the folks at hp...(invent.....)...there is a tiny ad for a portable diigital camera and printer just inside the back cover....just in case i am moved to produce some woo-worthy piece of photography myself...........curiously, there are numerous mentions of exhibits in houston, los angeles, boston....but none in nyc.................maybe the folks at the new yorker figured that readers already live in nyc and could find exhibits by reading the magazine itself...................
the aclu.....
ok, so my mom and i got into it over the aclu at lunch today, after church, over the issue of the ten commandments in publically funded buildings.........she contends that there is nothing in the constitution against these displays....and that the aclu just goes against it because they are meddlesome and nobody really is against these displays.............i tried to be calm as i explained that she was amongst 4 christians who believe that government should stay completely out of religion, and neither endorse nor condemn any form of religion...........and that the ten commandments means nothing if not practiced...........which brings me back to why my brother does not go to church at all....he contends that churches are full of people who do not practice what they preach..................ah well..................it takes all kinds..............
ok, so things don't look promising for boston.......pitching just didn't deliver...on either side but especially for boston........and then there was the balk,.....and the attempt to take third base on a basehit....and the attempt for too many runners to score.....well.......i am so sorry for this score.......and for osu, well they cannot seem to win a ball-game, either......yesterday's loss to iowa was their 3rd loss in a row.............there is always next year.........
