book club.......

ok, so tonight was book club.......and i went with my middle child rather than my spouse.........because he was the only one of our family to have completed the read......and because i wanted in on the selecting of next season's books......i will admit to 1) not finishing the kite runner.....2) not liking the kite runner.....3) reluctance to pick it back up and finish it.......picking a book back up....and liking it once i so do is a rarity.......i will fess up to liking the 6th harry potter book better on the second read......despite my dislike for the plotline....but in general....the putting down of a book means the discard of the book.........let's see......i put down ahab's wife.......hated that book...........and i put down war and peace, anna karenina....ulysses......classics......that lie in wait upon my bookshelves until the day that i decide to pick them back up......but i digress from bookclub......and the discussion about caste system.....and guilt.....and cowardess.......and writing the attempts to tie up all ends by the last page....and overthetop descriptives.......lively discussion.....and an even more interesting discussion on the way home in the car....all the things we didn't say when we had the chance.......and that is what i like about bookclub......the instigating of conversations that may not end the same evening.......for the record.......we will read the book lamb in february....not quite on my birthday...but close........
