84 charing cross road

ok, so...i borrowed this film from the library today an a whim...an online recommendation..it is the charming, and true story about a new york writer who bought used and out-of-print books from a london-based shop (at 84 charing cross road).....and the correspondence between the writer, and each of the folks there over the years....she was so thrilled to find the books in question, she sent tinned foods unavailable in post-war rationing...the comments on literaure, featured in her letters or the stopre manager's responses are quite precious.....i must admit to tears when she she missed the coronation...she had planned to travel to london to meet them all because had to cancel because she needed dental work and she could not afford both....she corresponded for 20 years...always putting off travel til tomorrow that she should have done today.....by the time she finally went to london, the store manager frank was dead, and the store gone......how very sad.....but such a sweet and unexpected film........
