questioning evolution.......and public baptism.......

ok, so my spouse received an email from a former tuesday/thursday/saturday running group person who, after greeting his friends, goes on to cite 'proofs' that evolution is a myth........he ( a fundementalist pastor too liberal for his congregation in danville) lists them one by one, and then cites a web site that will bestow $250,000 to the person that can prove that evolution happened......our friend and physician dr. rick h. emailed him back, with greetings from those runners who remain in danville.....basically told him that though he believes in god, he has no need to know if evolution happened, or did not happen....it is all part of the mystery of life, which he will contemplate with a beer, in his easy chair......the proofs about evolution?.......the tree in california being only 4000 years old.....somehow proves that the earth is only 4000 years old...and the great barrier reef being only a few thousand years old.......and population growth estimates that 'proved' that if the earth was really as old as scientists say we would be living several people per square inch...oh my.....to think that these people walk around breathing our air.....this is frightening.....especially since this guy left town because his congregation thought him too liberal.......thankfully, i attend a 'moderate' church that believes that women can be both ordained and deacons, and pastors, and the whole enchillada........which brings me to my second issue....public baptism.......i side with the aclu on their objection to a baptist congregation being ousted from a public park after performing baptisms in a public swimming area.....i often side with the aclu......but this is the first time i believe that the aclu sided with southern baptists.........i am a 'moderate' southern baptist.....whisch basically means liberal in the south......i did not actually join my church until we elected a female deacon and ordained a female staff member who had a seminary degree......i saw these as signs that i could actually be a baptist........much as i believe in the separation of church and state.....i do believe that public bathing areas are fair game for public baptisms........hopefully the courts will see it the same way.......
