chemotherapy...

ok, so yesterday afternoon we ventured out to mack's farm...to ohelp the running crowd clean mack's cabin/artstudio/meditation center that rests in the woods just off one of his fields.....for the record, our friend mack, a running, jazz clarint playing orthopedic surgeon has turned his farm into a nature preserve and has turned his fields over to native plants.....he recently discovered that he has some sort of lung-based lymphoma and will start chemo this week.......the running community has gathered pn sunday mornings at his cabin for the past 10 years (after a bike or a run/walk) for fellowship, shared silence, and a word from a rotating volunteer.......this event takes place during sunday school, so i only hear about it, and read the transcripts of the talks given by friends after shared silence/meditation........this is a basically esoteric liberal crowd, and the messages are anything but mainline baptist......they did go into great depths on the supression of the 'extra books' of the bible around the time the davinci code was a bestseller.......which was easy to do as several participants either teach religion or philosophy at centre college........anyway...the cabin's walls were replaced years ago by glass windows, making it quite one with nature on sunny days....and a beacon in the darkness when the fireplace is lit at night.........after a thorough cleaning small groups hiked the 'short' 3-mile trail, and then we had a potluck.......it was a nice evening with good friends......there were a handful of republicans present, which kept no one from voicing disappointment with the election.......ah well........mack is in great spirits and good health otherwise.......he will be in my prayers.....
