a silver lining?

ok, so years ago feminists in pennsylvania had a dilemna.....vote for the democrat who was neutral on abortion issues, or for the republican, arlin spector, who was, and is pro-choice......mr spector may come through for the cause in the wake of tuesday disappointment....this is from the ap.......thanks to my friend up east who found this bit of good news......

'The Republican expected to chair the Senate Judiciary Committee next year bluntly warned newly re-elected President Bush on Wednesday against putting forth Supreme Court nominees who would seek to overturn abortion rights or are otherwise too conservative to win confirmation.

Sen. Arlen Specter, fresh from winning a fifth term in Pennsylvania, also said the current Supreme Court now lacks legal "giants" on the bench.

"When you talk about judges who would change the right of a woman to choose, overturn Roe v. Wade, I think that is unlikely," Specter said, referring to the landmark 1973 Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion.'
"The president is well aware of what happened, when a number of his nominees were sent up, with the filibuster," Specter added, referring to Senate Democrats' success over the past four years in blocking the confirmation of many of Bush's conservative judicial picks. "... And I would expect the president to be mindful of the considerations which I am mentioning."

well, we shall see.......as for me, i am sickened to think that small-minded folks would take women back to the days when the backalley abortion was the only option......yes, birth control is more available, but the denial involved in the need for birth control will never go away......young, inexperienced and less-than-confident girls will forever forgo birth control because that major step to obtain it implies intent.......and intent has implications that most young girls are not ready to handle...let alone the parents of young girls.......my preferred method of birth control would be an additive to pepsi......that way parents could dose up their daughters without dealing with the issue of intent.......i only wish i were joking........but then, i have no need to be a grandmother to the child of a soon-to-be 12 year old......
