agile......

ok, so the word of the day is agile......as in amazingly agile.......the russian folk dance troupe that performed at centre college this evening......my inviation came at the last hour......when a spouse did not care to spend his evening watching dancers.....and i was able to enjoy an evening with one of my favorite people.......the last time we were in centre's newlin hall...at the same time and together....was 21 years ago.....when we ventured out, each heavy with child...to see walter cronkite speak for a convocation event........but i digress....the dancers did traditonal russian things, and some greek, spanish and argentinian pieces thrown in.....the most provacative piece was a recreation of a wwII battle fought in the urals between the nazis and a ragtag band of mounted cossacks.....the dancers wore large wooly cloaks that were drawn around each in such a way as to resemble a rider on horseback....and each seemed to float soundlessly......like there was a skateboard underneath rather than dancer's shoes......truly amazing.....the finale was the ukranian popak...with the big leaps and the sitting-back-on-the-heels kicking...wow....i was tired just watching.......not a big crowd for a wednesday.....like the dedicated republicans stayed home to watch dubya's big moment.....and the dedicated dems stayed home to jeer........as for me........2 hours of dancing is about all i can manage....but i am grateful to be asked, even at the last moment.........
