ok, so a book i ordered, and then forgot i ordered.....arrived today...jane austen's book club........and i am so far enamored........6 women and 1 man....nobody yet knows the endgame of the inclusion of the singular male........and beginning of cha[ter two lists the things one will not find in jane austen's novels:
locked room murders
punishing kisses
girls dressed up as boys, or vice versa
spies
serial killers
cloaks of invisibility (surely a harry potter reference)
jungian archetypes (regrettably)
cats
the cat part struck me the hardest...like a blow to the windpipe.......i have austen over and over.........and never noticed the lack of felines.........several dogs.....mostly pugs...........but no cats.............curious......was she a cat-a-phobic...there must be a correct term..but i am tiring rapidly....and have not the oomph to find it out this very evening.........the book that i keep working on...at lunch at work......bound to please by michael dirda..........focused this day on an obscure french author named raymond queneau......the book on review was saint glinglin......about a mayor and three sons who discover the father has kept secret a 4th child.....a beautiful daughter who is insane.....that did not seem as intriquing as the barktree (le chientent)...which is a tale that includes everything down to the inevitable evil dwarf.............gentle readers....there is something compelling about an evil dwarf.......possibly my next grouping of reads will be that of monsieur queneau..............and maybe by then i will know the exact term for those afraid of cats..............a pitiable state..............
