Here are some statistics to think about, presented by an organization
called Anorexia Nervosa and Related Eating Disorders Inc.

ANRED says that about 1 percent of female adolescents suffer from
anorexia, sometimes to the point that they starve themselves to death.
About 4 percent of college-age women suffer from bulimia, a secretive
disease that makes collecting numbers particularly difficult.

Anorexia and bulimia primarily affect people in their teens and 20s. I
know, there is a tendency to say, "Well, they bring it on themselves. No
one is making them do that." I could argue for hours about that, but I
won't. It's an illness and it demands attention. We all now know what
the long-term effect can be.

Some studies have identified the problem in children as young as 6 and
adults as old as 76. About 72 percent of alcoholic women younger than 30
also have eating disorders.

The numbers go on and on and you should look at them for yourself.

If you believe that life is sacred, you should think about these
numbers, put faces on them, as I have, and do what you can. There is a
chance now to call politicians and activists alike to task for paying
attention to Schiavo and many others like her only at the end of her life.

I had forgotten about the bulemia part myself.......and bulemia was at the heart of matter.......slowly, terri was starving herself to death before the heart attack...before the contraversy over death by starvation........and this is one of the many tragedies about this situation............
