ok, so i have watched the end of the sec tourney and the big ten tourney......and i am convinced that college sports exists not for alumni but for people who never made it to or through college.....ecw's step-grandmother is a case in point------aunt ginny, henry ernst's third wife who watched ky b-ball faithfully when she inhabited this house, called the uk teams 'her boys' even though she never went to college........at the sec tourney, a crazy woman dressed to the hilt in blue(sequins, mardi gras masque, jewelry.....) was interviewed by the press....i would bet my bottom dollar she never attended uk.......so if so many non-alums root for college ball, why not for the intelectual schools....why wasn't this crazy woman crazed over harvard or yale or princeton? locally, people who root for danvfille probably went to danville, and people who root for boyle probably went to boyle. i, for one, have always been out of step of uk bball....i can recall going out to dinner with ecw's original bike shop partner and his family..naybe 20 years ago......this little girl knew the starting lineup for uk...and i didn't even recognize the names........ah, well, illinois beat osu, my alma mater, decidely....it would be too much to ask for osu to win national championships in both football and bball.......of course, if osu gets in on the ncaa tourney, you never know...........osu breeds as many non-alum fans as any college team......my mother has a slew of scarlet and grey pieces of clothing, and she never attended the first class there...she went to o.u., which has the colors of green and white and is rarely seen on the national sports scene......so she has picked a team more likely to win as her 'team' . an aside, my mother has an extensive collection of crowns, a name that is not technically her own......she recently lowrated scw for neglecting to do heritage research on her family.....ironic in that he did so much legwork for our tip to the stephans of lambsheim...... one could say that these teams give hope to the people who never had the chance to go to college......one could say that.....but these days financial aid is so prevelent(sp?) that lack of money is only an excuse for young and mature students alike...... maybe team fans should be asked to wear one color if they are alums and another color if they are just fans.....just to help us all keep track........uk grads could wear blue, and non-alums could wear white with blue trim.....and no one would wear blue sequined mardi gras masks..........
