discarded.....

ok, so i have reshelved the stacks of books my youngest discarded from her own shelves of late....and i am disheartened by the quality of literature she finds not worth her time......the newbury award winners of the past 20 years, caldecott medalists.....you get the picture......the decision to discard based solely on the subject matter not being 1)wolves 2) horses 3) girls who ride horses 4) marauding cats ......she has not bothered to read the last 2 harry potter books...what's up with that...how can anybody not read any book in that series once through to get the plot and at least once more to take in the details......how can any person growing up in a bookish family not be drawn to read all of the hundreds (thousands?) of books we have on hand.....
