meth grandbabies and postlunch children in pj's

ok, so........today was the underbelly of my usual clientele.......not what i needed on this monday morning...but one deals with the hand as dealt......first up was a grandma who has custody of her newborn grandbaby who tested positive for meth.....omg.....and this was not the first grandbaby she has opted to raise as her own......in her words.....she thought was was going to retire, but she will spend her retirement raising her children's children....i did my best to be of comfort to this sad and burdened woman who is likely younger than me.....how very tragic.....the mamma has not been to see the baby since leaving the hospital......and then there was the mamma. grandma and toddler...all reeking of ciggies...who came by afer lunch...with the toddler in an obviously loaded diaper and still in her jammies....no shoes....because shoes won't fit over a zip=up fleece onepiece......and neither the mamma nor the grandma seemed the least embarassed that they had bothered to change nor dress this child......i read them the riot act...over the cigarettes in the car and the house...one must pick the battles.....and the mamma noted that she expected me to say something......i took the time to ask what it would take for her to quit...given the cost, the health risks, the offensive odor...and she could not come up with an answer for diverting $2000 a year away from her child's upkeep..........
