mad about the military

ok, so.....i arrived home first, and automatically discarded a packet from the marines addressed to my eldest promising a t-shirt if he'd return the enclosed card......it is a mother's prerogative to sift through mail that her children need never see.....and so it was with great amazement that my daughter brought forth at supper a packet of information she'd giddily picked up at her school's career days about the marines......omg......2 children of mine targeted for military service in a single day....seems my daughter and her cohorts think that a career in the marines would be a great way to get their college paid for....and a great way to meet guys....and get tattoos.....the list of perks with the military alludes me, it would seem......while taking my customary hot whirlpool bath i had a flash-forward to her military funeral.....that is how much confidence i have in her military service, or any body's military service at this point......i did mention that there is an entrance exam......but this fell on deaf ears.....

Your welcome. That's what I'd like to say to Americans who rest comfortably in thier whirlpools under the blanket of freedom I and all of my brothers and sisters at arms provide for you. Your children will have to make up their minds for themselves once they are out of your house, but the military, especially the Marines may be valuable for them...and you as an American. I challenge you to call and set up an appointment with the Marine recruiter. He or she will come out and answer any questions you have, and your support of your children will be appreciated, I'm sure. I recommend the Marines because if they are going to go, and be putting thier life on the line for you and me, they should probably have the toughest, most thourough preparation possible. You will find that most of us do come back, and while I cannot guarantee your children's safety, the mentioned training is the best in the world. The paying for college needs not be the driving motivation for your children though. They must understand that they are signing up for a life changing event, and that the medical, dental, education, ect are benefits, but not reasons to enlist.

ok, so....while i appreciate your passion for the safety and security of our nation, i do take umbrage for the recruiter in question tempting 14 year old girls with the notion of readily accessible males......my child was much more enthralled with the potential for tattoos than she was for service to her nation...a sentiment not known to be important to high school freshman.....and if that is the quality of recruit you seek : underage girls who wish they were old enough to date and get a tat, then i feel sorry for us all.... and as for my fast-forward funeral vision...it happened at the military cemetery where my dad, a proud veteran of the great war, is interred.....those men and women died for a known and collectively identified ideal....i cannot begin to quantify the sacrifice of those who die today.....

ok, so...and may i add that the recruiter who so enthralled my child with the notion of readily available dates never mentioned that she had to actually qualify to get into college should she complete military service...she was left with the impression that her lack of interest in academics would be trumped magically by a tour of duty.....lying to america's youth to get recruits is beyond contempt.....
