breaktime.....

ok, so i have been hard at work since 10.........trimming back the jungle that befalls my garden when the rains come and i neglect the weeds for a week or two.....there are so many native shrubs and vines that can easily take over in a short space of time.......i dealt with the poison ivy first...wearing a dispoable glove .......and then on to the major task........the 12 x 12 rose called snowbush.......think bramble....as in the bramble that the prince must fight through to rescue aurora in sleeping beauty......this bush is a beast.....one that could easily grow on up into the overhanging branches of the neighbors tree at some point......i cut away enough branches to fill the back of our truck......and still my spouse will accuse me of being too tentative with this attempt at taming the plant........the bloom was awesome...while it lasted....but like most of my roses.....they are species and once-blooming.......might as well trim back the growth that is getting out of hand......and then on to the quince tree....the pear tree......the trellis rose.......well...this one is still blooming, but i did trim back a few of the spots where it was a menace to passers-by......that particular rose has left an extra life-line on my hand......one of the reasons i am back in the house.......these sort of wounds require antiseptic and a large bandage.........i have also trimmed back the forsythia......and lowhanging branches of 2 redbuds.......the hedge in back of the garage........and after i have fortified myself with a nice hunk of watermelon.....and maybe peeled off these socks and tried to evenout my farmer's tan.....i will get out the digging forl and try to clear out the remaining lamb's ear from the garden section where i attempt to grow annuals like zinnias and cosmos......i hope it is not too late to plant these.......and then on to the back to trim more rosebushes that are closing off the path to the lake.......my brotherinlaw the rosarian is coming down after the wedding next weekend to fish......he has a gardener to help tame his yard....but the least i can do is to tackle the biggest bushes just to look as respectable as possible with the gardening crew that i have available today..........yours truly.........the message light was blinking when i came into the house......a familiar voice calling from a local bank......likely offering competitive rates and free checking......i might save the tape on the machine......so when this young caller actually becomes a senator i can say that i knew him when..........hmmmm....back to work.............
