to know or not to know.....

ok, so...if my child needed/wanted an abortion....and she was too shamed to ask me directly...i would rather she go through with it than wait for a judge to give her permission...

TALLAHASSEE, Florida (AP) -- A federal lawsuit argues that a new Florida law requiring physicians to notify parents when their minor daughters seek abortions could endanger the girls by delaying emergency treatment.

The Center for Reproductive Rights and the Planned Parenthood Federation of America hope to block the law before it takes effect July 1. The law covers girls 17 and under unless they are married or have already had a child.

The measure would require doctors to phone or meet with parents 48 hours before an abortion. If that's not possible, they can use certified mail 72 hours in advance.

In a medical emergency, doctors can bypass those limits to perform an abortion if they conclude there isn't enough time to comply with the notification requirements.

The law could hurt girls suffering from preeclampsia, ectopic pregnancies and other dangerous conditions, said Janet Crepps, an attorney for the New York-based Center for Reproductive Rights.

"The Supreme Court has clearly said that minors, and any woman, should be able to get an immediate abortion, if it's necessary to preserve her life or health," she said, adding that any delay can "increase the health risks associated with the procedures."

Sen. Paula Dockery, one of the bill's sponsors, defended the legislation, saying that the organizations' concerns had already been addressed in the careful wording of the bill.

The measure also lets judges grant a waiver based on a patient's best interests, her level of maturity or if she has been a victim of abuse by her parents.

The suit, filed Thursday in U.S. District court in Tallahassee, Florida, also challenges a provision in the law that Crepps said could prevent young college students and other nonresidents from getting such a judicial waiver. Dockery disputed that claim.

The Supreme Court will hear a related New Hampshire case this fall, considering whether health exceptions are required in abortion laws requiring parental notification.

i say this despite having dreamed about grandchildren last night.......no child should be born un.......you fill in the rest..............

i have said this before....and i will say it again.....my sons are related to a woman who died due to the consequences of an illegal abortion.....no woman in 2005 america deserves to die in such a way again.........
