song of the woodthrush

ok, so today we went on a hike at the wildlife refuge with the running/centre crowd......just a 2.5 mile loop over hill and dale.......and we got to talking about the bird guy who had been on npr this past week talking about bird songs.......and we got to talking about the woodthrush....and the zen parable that the bird guy told..... “There's this wonderful Zen parable: If you listen to the thrush and hear a thrush, you've not really heard the thrush. But if you listen to a thrush and hear a miracle, then you've heard the thrush.” Don Kroodsma (the bird guy) .......well.....we hadn't walked another 10 foot from the spot when elizabeth stopped dead in her tracks and said....there was a woodthrush......and so we all stopped to listen......and don't you know.....it was a woothrush......i can't say that i heard a miracle......but i was thrilled to have heard the sweet sounds of this bird's song...........
