church ladies............

ok, so today i baked 28 lasagnas for a luncheon/fundraiser after church............which turned out to be 8 too many.....i will rework them with extra sauce/cheese for wednesday night prayer meeting.............gentle readers, please note that when i say baked, i meant only that......i bought them wholesale from my supplier, and carted them hot from my business to the church sometime between 7:00 AM this morning and noon.........i am happy to do this, not only because logistics for this task comes easily, but also because it gives me a chance to cavort with a select group of octogenarian church ladies..........the ladies who 'run' the kitchen during church meals..........not necessarily based on talent in this endeavor, but on outlasting the church lady wannabees.....i suppose.........there are at least three caterers who attend my 'moderate' southern baptist church (we say moderate in this bible belt conservative area where no church would ever call itself liberal even it has female deacons..........) anyway, these ladies are a hoot...........in the course of setting everything up, replenishing the lasagnas, salad, dressing, rolls, etc.......i heard all about their cats, their kin (i have lived in this area and i am just finding out that two of these ladies are paternal aunts to the husband of a drug rep who gives us significant doctor's office lunch business............) and about harmless gossip..............i learned that an active family who sits near us in the balcony is moving to glasgow (ky, not scotland....) because of a work transfer...............and all about another member's broken hip and the nurse hired to 'sit' with her during the day..........and then they got to talking about mistaken relationships..........liek the person who asked the younger sister if she was the daughter of the eldest......and the other woman, who was visiting a hospitalized church member, and was asked if she were a daughter.........so i mentioned that i am often taken for my partner's mother.......which makes me feel quite old in that he is over 30..............and these gracious ladies exclaimed that there was no way that i could be mistaken for the parent of a 32 year-old..............such a blessing to get to know these women.........i should look so good when i am above the age of 80.................
