the cake stand........

ok, so there are many ends that are tying themselves up these days.....kind of like dragnet........when joe friday had all the loose ends accounted for before the 30 minute time slot was over.......well, yesterday...the cake stand appeared.........or rather...was sheepishly delivered...by the father-of-the-bride.......1 year late.........this incident was blogged in great detail at the time....but for newer followers...i will summarize.......the couple from who we bought the restaurant......who were going to retire in florida...went for a short season....and then basically came back home semi-disappointed...they then started making wedding cakes.....special order...out of their illegal at-home kitchen.......the only wedding that we had at the restaurant...that featured one of their cakes......was the most memorable wedding because of the cake.......delivered...set up....several layers separated by white plastic columns........so far...so good....except that the columns were not adequately supported by matching internal supports.....and so.....by the time the bride arrived after the ceremony....the cake was literally leaning like the tower of pisa......to the point that we felt we needed someone to stand in back of it, wearing gloves, of course....to catch it when it fell.......bigtime lean.......hard to not notice it lean.......we had the bride cut it early....just to be safe.......and that was the easy part.......there was more cake than could be eaten at the reception......so the bride's family took the rest home.....and returned all of the white plastic columns, supports, etc....or so we thought......months later....the cake-baker aka our landlord.......sent her husband by to pick up the cake stand.....what cake stand?........he insisted on looking around....and so...since last year...he has 'looked around' for that cake stand every month...when he comes to get the rent check.......and has not found it.......there were many harsh words about the cake...the bride....a lawyer...refused to pay for it.....fine and dandy when you live out of town.....but her parents till live here....and are not on speaking terms with the cake-baker........and so...when the bride's parents actually found the cake stand in their basement.....they dropped it by trc, rather than taking it directly to the cake baker.........so now we haver to figure out how to graciously deliver it hence....i say...we leave it on their porch, then ring the bell and run away...........but knowing our luck...these people will be armed.........so we are back to plan b...whatever that is.........
