the politics of fear
ok, so i am still agitated by michael moore's movie.......about how bush and cronies have financial connections to an oil pipeline being built in afghanistan......and to the saudi royal family......and therefore decisions made in response to 9-11 had as much or more to do with protecting oil interests...theirs and those of their friends.......than anything else.....take bush's resistence at an independent investigation....the sitting president organized such investigations within days of pearl harbor....and of kennedy's assasination....and the oklahoma city bombing.......for bush to let the bin laden family and the saudi royal family leave the country after 9-11........without any questioning/statements.....would be like clinton letting timothy mcvey's family leave town free and clear.......turns out that companies to which bush and cheney have political and financial ties actually entertained the taliban the summer before 9-11.....remember that oil pipeline deal?......that is why bush did not want to go after bin laden in afghanistan........he did not want to jeopardize his interests there.....and so he made saddam hussein his target......he wanted to bomb iraq after 9-11, even though none of the guys who hijacked the planes were iraqi....they were all saudi....and he couldn't attack his friends he just allowed to leave the country...now could he......chilling.....absolutely chilling.....and then there is ashcroft and the patriot act.....which congress passed without actually reading.....that basically allows for a roll-back of basic freedoms in the interest of security.......i especially enjoyed the part in moore's movie when he drove around the capital area in an ice cream truck reading aloud the patriot act.......the movie is somewhat critical fo the democrats who signed on for the war....and who voted for the patriot act.......so in many ways this was not a pro-democratic film......as much as it is an anti-bush movie.......
