the 'm' word
ok, so cayle and i dashed off to micholasville to see the early show of marie antoinette.....and i was not disappointed......having read both positive and negative reviews....i had no idea what to expect......other than pop-song overlays......and lavish costumes.....wow....a life so incredibly boring and repetitive....and backbitingly mean.......i did think about bill murray in ground hog day.....except that the days at versailles very over-the-top with flowers, food, clothes, jewels..........roger ebert said it best.......it is a film i would see again, now that i know how the film ends, as opposed to the reality show version of her life......thankfully we are spared all the gorey details....and the way sofia coppola chooses to end her film is sweet rather than tragic.......when asked what she thought of the movie, cayle mentioned the dog.....that was taken away from her at age 14 as she crossed the austrian frontier into france.......all things foreign were taken away......and she never did get her precious pug back.......zut alors.....i suppose what coppola told us most in her film was how totally isolated marie was from the real world....and how the revolution took her by surprise........my daughter wants to see versailles in april when we visit paris......and i know she will be disappointed that the chateaux as filmed was greatly embellished compared to the one we shall tour......and maybe that is why this film was so impressive to me personally.....i have seen these places in their austerity.......and to behold these scenes at their utmost......wow!
