found

ok, so....sometimes i read so many things from so many sources on any given day that when i want to refind these things.....i cannot quite recall where i had found it originally...such was the case with a piece that i read recently...by christopher buckley, about his experience in having written the book upon which thank you for smoking was based....how he sold the option to mel gibson before it was even published in 1994.....and how it took 12 years for the book to come to the screen......buckley quoted one of my favorite authors in his rant upon the hollywood crowd......."Ernest Hemingway was so embittered by his experiences in Hollywood that he formulated what might be called Hemingway's Rule for Dealing with the Celluloid Bastards: Drive your car to the California state line. Take your manuscript out of the car. Make them throw the money across first. Toss them the manuscript, get back in the car and drive back east as fast as you can."

Turns out it was in Time, March 20, 2006....and i only read it because the eldest was home briefly and he came along with it, asking if it was true that i stopped getting Time.......yeah, yeah, yeah.....i need to get back with Time, because i miss it...curiously i missed thie piece back in March....but this time around.....i marveled at Hemingway's wit....and fantasized that maybe one day one of my offspring could stand on the California state line to toss the manuscript......
