weddings......

ok, so.....this weekend there will be two weddings of grandeur...one in danville and one in louisville.......and i am going to....neither.........praise be to god......the local one is a classmate of my eldest....who will be coming in for the event......i have kindly purchased a gift for him to take....not on her list....i have spent the past few weeks listening to folks fussing about having to buy 2-3 shower gifts as well as a wedding gift....which is a lot to ask of folks who are not kin.......and even kin have their limits....which brings me to the louisville wedding.......i am closely aquainted with 2 aunties of the bride, who both balked at the notion of $900 placesettings......together they had no intention of a single plate/cup/plate combo........gentle readers.......in this day and age......who could possibly believe that they deserve the lifestyle that involves such dishes?..........certainly not the college drop-out that is the l'ville bride...at least the danville bride with diminutive tastes finished her degree......the local wedding has been a bit ackward...at least for me.....in that all of the festivities have been c.c. related.....and i take the woody allen position on such things...' I wouldn't belong to any club that would have me as a member '........somehow i managed to make it through 25 years of marriage without a registry......and of the things we were given......i have managed to cope with the loss of 10/12 wine glasses and 9/12 cereal bowls.........in fact, one of my offspring is happy as a clam to eat out of a 2-cup pyrex measuring cup......and feels no need for any cereal bowls.......though i have purchased 4 lovely bowls that match his dishes nicely.......and could find another 4 if need-be......but i digress from the notion that any newlywed couple need spend all their funds on stuff........of all the things that i have done in this earthly life....i am most proud that my spouse and i spent everylast penny on three weeks of camping in europe on our honeymoon........a $900 placesetting will likely outlast the marriage itself......but a continental camping honeymoon is priceless.............
